Creating your own custom voice in HeyGen gives you the ability to personalize your videos with natural, authentic narration that reflects your identity or matches the style of your brand. With the AI Voice Tool, you can either clone your real voice from an audio file or generate a completely new synthetic voice using only a text description. Both options give you flexibility and control over how your content sounds.
To begin, open your dashboard, go to Voices, and select Create New Voice. You’ll see two paths: Instant Voice Clone or Generate a New Voice.
If you choose Instant Voice Clone, you’ll be asked to confirm that HeyGen may use your recording to build a synthetic version of your voice. Once confirmed, upload your audio file. For the best results, use a clip that is at least two minutes long, recorded in a quiet space, and free of noticeable background noise. You can decide whether to preserve any ambient sound from the original file. When everything looks good, click Create Voice Clone.
After your clone is generated, you can test it by typing a sentence and listening to the playback. At this stage, you can customize the voice further by adjusting language, accent, and engine. The Advanced tab gives you more control through settings like stability, similarity, style exaggeration, and speaker boost if you want added presence. Once the voice feels right, save your changes and it will be added to your personal library.
You can also create an entirely new AI voice without providing a recording. Select Generate a New Voice, give your voice a name, and write a short descriptive prompt that captures the qualities you want, such as age, gender, accent, or tone. For example, you might write “a calm, professional female voice with a light British accent” or “an energetic male voice in his thirties with a warm, confident delivery.” When you click Generate, HeyGen will produce three variations for you to review. Choose the one that fits, or refine your prompt and generate new options.
With only a few steps, you can create voices that sound natural, expressive, and ready for use in any video. Whether you are cloning your real voice for consistent branding or designing something entirely new for a specific project, HeyGen gives you the creative tools to shape narration that feels genuine and aligned with your message.
