When you’re translating videos for global audiences, accuracy matters. Small errors in phrasing or timing can affect how your message is received. That’s why HeyGen offers Proofread, a feature for Enterprise users that ensures your translations and captions are polished, accurate, and ready to share. With Proofread, you can refine scripts yourself or collaborate with a native speaker to make sure your content resonates in every language.
Starting is easy. From your dashboard, click Create Video and choose Video Translation. You can upload a file directly or paste a link from YouTube or Google Drive. Once the video is in place, click Create Proofread to launch the process.
HeyGen automatically detects the original language, but you can adjust it if needed before choosing your target output language. You’ll also see options for fine-tuning accuracy, like setting the number of speakers, applying your Brand Voice for consistent terminology, or enabling Dynamic Duration so timing adjusts naturally when translations run longer or shorter. If you prefer fixed pacing, you can turn this setting off. For even more precision, upload your subtitle files (SRT/ASS) so the translation aligns perfectly with your source script.
Once submitted, your proofread video begins processing and will appear in your library. Open it to review the translated script directly in the editor. Here, you can make adjustments line by line, swap in a new voice or even a custom clone, and preview your changes immediately. The preview function is especially useful for checking pronunciation and flow before finalizing. If you’d like to refine offline, you can download your script as an Excel file or subtitle file, edit it, and upload it back into HeyGen when ready.
Proofread also makes collaboration simple. If you want a native speaker to verify your translation, you can invite them into your project with a free Proofreader role. From the Projects tab, place your video in a folder, open the folder menu, and select Collaborators. Enter your proofreader’s email, or share a collaboration link. They’ll need a HeyGen account, but any plan type will work. This role gives them access to that folder only, so they can review, suggest edits, and help you ensure accuracy.
Once you’re satisfied with your edits, click Generate Result to produce the final version. You can include captions, or choose “translate audio only” if you’d prefer to keep lip-sync out of the output. Your video is then ready to download, share, or embed, confidently accurate and tailored for your audience.
